Can betel leaf be grown in black soil ?

I am from Karnataka .In south side of Karnataka betel leaf cultivation is successful but I want to know whether it can be grown in North side of Karnataka i.e towards Hubli,dharwad .there is black soil in most of the farms so plz guide me.thank you
